{"id":20,"date":"2013-11-23T22:57:25","date_gmt":"2013-11-23T22:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johnfcaplin.com\/?page_id=20"},"modified":"2013-11-23T23:22:25","modified_gmt":"2013-11-23T23:22:25","slug":"philosophy-values","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.johnfcaplin.com\/?page_id=20","title":{"rendered":"philosophy &#038; values"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I believe that people are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Creative and innovative<\/li>\n<li>Resilient<\/li>\n<li>Created in the Imagio Deo and have inherent dignity and equality<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In light of these I will therefore:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Assume that people have the ability to organize their lives and to be effective if given the right support.<\/li>\n<li>Assume that people know best as to what they need.<\/li>\n<li>Engage people with respect.<\/li>\n<li>Allow them to be masters of their own destiny.<\/li>\n<li>Challenge individuals to tap into their reservoir of inner strength and creativity.<\/li>\n<li>Engage people with tenacity and not accept excuses or justifications that demean a person&#8217;s own abilities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I believe that leaders:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Are developed not born.<\/li>\n<li>Primarily are about shaping values and must:\n<ul>\n<li>Lead by example.<\/li>\n<li>Set the agenda by their actions not just their talk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Determine what an organization becomes.<\/li>\n<li>Draw out the best in others.<\/li>\n<li>Develop trust because it is the currency to lead.<\/li>\n<li>Pursue excellence.<\/li>\n<li>Lead out of who they are.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In light of these beliefs I will therefore challenge leaders to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Examine the integrity and consistency of their lives.<\/li>\n<li>Explore inconsistencies.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a clear set of internal values.<\/li>\n<li>Examine actions against the expressed corporate values.<\/li>\n<li>Continue to stretch and grow.<\/li>\n<li>Look for ways to encourage and develop people and leaders around them.<\/li>\n<li>Be a non-anxious presence.<\/li>\n<li>Grow as a person.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>values<\/p>\n<p>I value:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Honesty therefor I will:\n<ul>\n<li>Accurately, through writings and interactions, represent:\n<ul>\n<li>My abilities and limitations.<\/li>\n<li>Clearly what is my creation and what is other&#8217;s creation.<\/li>\n<li>What coaching is and its&#8217; possibilities are.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Seek to constantly be self-aware and take appropriate actions to deal with personal or professional issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Integrity therefore I will:\n<ul>\n<li>Speak and act in such a way that reflects positively on coaching as a profession and the public&#8217;s perception of it.<\/li>\n<li>Develop clear contracts with clients and keep them.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that clients understand what coaching is.<\/li>\n<li>Disclose any benefit I might receive from a third-party for a referral of the client.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Respect therefore I will:\n<ul>\n<li>Hold a client&#8217;s information confidential unless required otherwise by law or by their agreement. This includes dealing with records in a secure manner.<\/li>\n<li>Honor other coaches and their diversity of approaches.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid inappropriate physical contact and sexual involvement with clients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Effectiveness therefore I will:\n<ul>\n<li>Continue to learn and develop to give my clients the best possible help.<\/li>\n<li>Get assistance and support when\/if my personal life impairs my abilities.
